Why it’s important: Speed is a key asset in counter-attacking situations. Prospects who can cover ground quickly enable their team to transition rapidly, creating opportunities to exploit moments of vulnerability in the opposing defense. The breakaway drill measures the maximum speed a prospect can dribble while remaining under control and ready to finish. Soccer is a game of limited opportunities, and finishing is crucial for capitalizing on those opportunities. Prospects that can convert a higher percentage of chances into goals are more likely to stand out and impact the game.
