Why it’s important: In defensive situations, a well-executed long pass can relieve pressure by moving the ball from the defensive third to the attacking third quickly. The Longest Pass drill measures how far a prospect can accurately advance the ball. Prospects that can deliver accurate long passes contribute to the team's ability to build from the back by bypassing the opponent's press and initiating attacks from deep positions. When a team wins possession deep in their own half, a well-executed long pass can release an attacking player into space, leading to a quick transition from defense to offense.
