Why it’s important: Acceleration is a crucial physical attribute in soccer, and it plays a significant role in a prospect's overall performance. The 10 yard dash measures a prospects ability to accelerate and reach top speed. Soccer often requires explosive movements, such as sprinting to reach a loose ball, making a sudden change of direction, or accelerating to beat an opponent. Acceleration allows players to execute these movements with speed and power. Quick acceleration allows players to get behind defensive lines, making them harder to mark and increasing their chances of receiving through-balls or long passes. Acceleration is also crucial for defenders who need to rapidly cover ground and apply pressure on attacking players.
