Why it’s important: Foot speed influences a prospect’s ability to control the ball, change direction, defend effectively, and contribute to both offensive and defensive phases of play. The Speed Ladder drills in one of the most reliable ways to measure foot speed. Quick foot speed allows players to maneuver the ball more effectively. This is particularly important when dribbling in tight spaces or when under pressure from opponents. Rapid foot movements help prospects keep the ball close and change direction swiftly. Fast foot speed enables prospects to make quick turns, cuts, and changes in direction, helping them evade defenders or adjust their positioning rapidly.
